OCCUPATIONS PROJECT

There is a growing belief of a disassociation between the quality of life and the financial reward attached to the 9-5 working experience. Plus, the added pressure generated by authority figures to motivate their workforce thinking it will increase performance and, with competition for the race to the top from the ambitious, this routine isn’t for everyone.
For many people, there are no choices, but for others, their whole lives are governed by a desire not to be a part of this lifestyle.
Is it being in control of their way of life, not complying with the consensus of the general population or just adding a little extra value to their existence?
I’m seeking individuals from diverse backgrounds and professions, and then recording the results in a series, based on portraits and short interviews. Their stories can be interesting because of the highly unusual nature of their jobs or after-hours activities and the unique experiences associated with their labour.
Relying heavily on strong identifiable items, tools, uniforms or work related clothing for context, these images are studio based using strobe lighting and typically with coloured gels.
